Gems are essential for player progressions for both P2W and F2P players in The Tower - Idle Tower Defense and this guide will showcase best ways to farm and spend them. The problem with the gems/diamonds is that they are really slow to earn and can be spend on the wrong things, which will slow down the account growth and stagger the progression. It's recommended to go through The Tower Ultimate Beginners Guide to get acquaintanced with the game basics. With that said, let's dive into the guide.

The Tower - Idle Tower Defense Gems Farming and Spending Guide will help you to figure out the best ways to earn gems, their spending order and priority for F2P and paying players. It's part of the The Tower - Idle Tower Defense Guides series, where you can find the rest of the guides on the game.

Gem Spending[edit source]

There are multiple ways to spend gems, and it's important to invest them in the right thing. Wrong decision can set you back for weeks of farming extra gems. It's better to save gems in the early game until you make sure that you are doing a right thing. Although if you feel like spending some gems on something that is not really efficient but doesn't cost a lot, go for it. But do your best to focus on the Labs and Card unlocks early on, try to avoid spending gems on speedups and other things that can be acquired in other ways.

Gem Spending Priority[edit source]

There are 2 main progression paths that are available for the new players in The Tower. One is focused on early progression, adding several Card Slots Unlocks and Buying more Card in between the Lab upgrades, when second one is better for long-term progression, but first few months of the game will be pretty bland and boring.

In any case both options start with buying cards until you will pull Enemy Balance card. It will significantly accelerate early game by making more enemies appear in the run, which in turn will allow to farm more Coins/min. You might be able to pull some other useful Cards while doing this. After you successfully acquire the card select one of the following options.

Early Game Focused Progression Path[edit source]

This path accelerates the first few weeks progress at the expense of being slightly behind on long term progress. By getting a few extra card slots early, you can compound your progress while saving gems to unlock labs. This is the path I recommend for active players that can farm 1000s of waves a day.

  1. Enemy Balance Card
  2. 2nd card slot - Cash/Coins
  3. 2nd Lab Unlock
  4. 3rd card - Cash/Coins
  5. 3rd Lab Unlock
  6. 4th card slot - HP/ASPD
  7. 5th card slot - HP/ASPD
  8. 4th Lab Unlock
  9. 5th Lab Unlock
  10. Additional Card Slots and Cards
  11. Move on to Modules section

Late Game Focused Progression Path[edit source]

This path is heavily focused on the Labs. It will allow you to unlock all 5 Labs couple of weeks earlier than previous build. This is a good path for less active players whose main progress metric will be labs over time.

  1. Enemy Balance Card
  2. 2nd card slot - Cash/Coins
  3. 2nd Lab Unlock
  4. 3rd Lab Unlock
  5. 4th Lab Unlock
  6. 5th Lab Unlock
  7. Additional Card Slots and Cards
  8. Move on to Modules section

Buying Modules[edit source]

Until you have all 5 Labs and at least 5-6 card slots, you should just use the rare modules that you get from bosses. Get those while you farm, merge them and you can get Rare, Rare+, Epic or even higher rarity modules in the end, that will provide you the basic stats and effects. Later on, you can change them for pulled Epic and higher rarity modules with special module-specific effect.

After you get 5 Labs, it is recommended to find a balance of splitting gems between cards, modules and unlocking card slots. Unlock a new slot when you have a card you want to run. When you have at least one copy of all cards, you can work on module pulls in order to get unique ability Epic Module. Early on Modules even though they are powerful are not as good as Cards. Once you have maxed commons you can focus on modules and cards.

It's worth noting that unique modules need a foundation to work to their fullest potential, so they will not provide large benefits early on. I would focus on cards first. But ultimately, it's up to each own, it's important to enjoy the game and do what you feel like.
